January 2007
At the recommendation of my orthopedist, I consulted with an orthopedic surgeon who had performed hip arthroscopies. After he reviewed the x-rays I had taken a few minutes earlier, he stated that he did not think he could be of help. He had performed five such surgeries and he said his patients had not had good results. He recommended that I wait until I slithered (my word) and then have hip replacements. Upon hearing this, my orthopedist recommended that we look elsewhere. After researching the matter, he and I agreed that the best surgeon for me to see was in San Francisco. My wife and I planned the trip.

My back went out again, so I visited the Orthogonal Chiropractor. Subsequently, and in anticipation of hip surgeries, I visited the naturopath/acupuncturist to help my body get prepared.

February 2007
In preparation for my hip surgeries, I had an MRI performed on my left hip. We could not find anyone in the Pacific Northwest who had the expertise and experience to perform the hip arthroscopy.

I received a telephone call from the intuitive with whom we have been regularly meeting for the past several months. During the conversation I told her I thought she had been faking her downloads. I regret this very much. Not because I was hoodwinked (once again), but because she may have gifts (aside from being a most convincing actress). Consequently, she has undermined herself and betrayed whatever gifts she has been granted.

March 2007
Early this month my wife contacted our insurance carrier to get permission to have the arthroscopic surgery on my left hip in San Francisco. She was informed that our research was correct, there indeed wasn’t anyone in the Northwest who could perform the surgery. Roughly two weeks later in San Francisco, the day prior to my scheduled surgery, I received a telephone call from our health insurer stating that there was an orthopedist in Portland, OR who could perform the surgery. At our request, the San Francisco MD’s assistant called and spoke with the Portland surgeon that had been referenced by my health insurer. The MD stated that they did not perform all of the procedures that I required. The next morning I had arthroscopic surgery performed on my left hip.

It was an outpatient procedure that occurred in the morning. I left the surgical center on crutches in the early afternoon in time to have lunch. While I experienced some pain in my left hip, it was minor in comparison to my shoulder surgeries. I flew home two days later. I only needed pain medication (Keflex) the first day. Approximately two weeks after returning home, I started using a cane for stability. I could walk with little discomfort. The one thing I feared was my back going out. Fortunately, it didn’t. One unanticipated effect: I experienced short-term memory loss.

Later in the month, I had a PSA test. The results were negative. (DO WE HAVE THE REPORT FOR A LINK?)

April 2007
I am so pleased with the results of the left hip surgery. Walking daily becomes a routine. I visit the naturopath/acupuncturist for his input about my condition with having arthroscopic surgery on my right hip in mind. He is encouraging but troubled by my memory loss.
 
I see the dermatologist this month as well. He freezes a number of sites on my face, but there aren’t any other questionable growths. In that my back is causing me problems, I visit a Network Chiropractor. The process is very gentle and my hips aren’t challenged in any way.

I have an MRI and CT scan on my right hip.

May 2007
The day before surgery on my right hip my wife and I walk the Golden Gate Bridge. Prior to the surgery, I talk with the anesthesiologist about my short-term memory loss. In his more than 25 years experience, he states he has never encountered this problem. He theorizes that it is perhaps caused by lowering my blood pressure during surgery that is done to reduce bleeding.

The surgery goes even better than my left hip surgery six weeks earlier. I not only don’t need crutches, I can hobble to lunch that afternoon. And I do not need any pain medication. My memory isn’t any worse than before the surgery, my wife confirms. Two days later we fly home. (RIGHT HIP POST OP)

A problem develops. One of the three incisions becomes infected. Fortunately, it does not go into the joint, let alone bone. It takes several weeks to clear up, and I am somewhat apprehensive during that time.

I again visit the Network Chiropractor in that I continue having back problems. I start visiting the acupuncturist who treated my left shoulder so successfully. He places innumerable needles in my right hip and, as with the shoulder treatments, attaches some of the needles to electrical wiring.  According to the professionals viewing the MRI’s and x-rays, my right hip was in worse condition than my left. But it is recovering more quickly.

I also visit the naturopath to solicit his help. I am really glad all of this is over. I hope to settle in and focus on recovering physically and hopefully my memory as well.

June 2007
The elector-acupuncture treatments are working superbly. I couldn’t be happier with my hips’ progress. He is treating both hips now, sometimes with over 40 needles, more than ¾ of which are in my hips.

I visit my orthopedist who is delighted with the results of my surgeries.
